End of menu sale at Venison America
I just got the weekly e-mail from Venison America (a great place for specialty meats), and they’re having an awesome sale for the overstock they have as restaurants change thier menus for spring.  Neiman Ranch bacon-$3.95/lb  Le Quebecois veal chops-$14.95/lb  Amish Chicken $1.10/lb! They’re only taking phone orders, and if you don’t have a resturant, you’ll probably have...

ZOMG! Jack's are crazy cheap!
If you know me, you know I’m a fan of the Jack’s frozen pizza.  You can find them almost anywhere in the Twin Cities, and they’re on sale at Rainbow this week!  5 for $10!  As a future fat guy, I don’t think I could be more excited.  $2 a pizza!  That’s a steal! Also, I can’t believe that no one’s written about this yet.  This is big news people!

The Flavor Bible
I recently purchased The Flavor Bible and found it to be a great resource and companion to Culinary Artistry.  Both books focus on flavor combinations rather than recipes, a practice I recommend for creating dishes. The side notes by well known American chefs are the most interesting part, I think.  It’s hard to get an inside look at great mind’s recipe creation. Buy one today!...

White House Garden
I’m glad the Obamas are putting in a garden at the White House.  It’s something that everyone who owns a house should do. Michael Pollan has grander plans for the White House, however.  Wetlands, a garden and an orchard are part of Pollan’s plans. Sounds awesome.  DC’s a pretty bleak place in my opinion, and it could use some variety.

They stole the same idea that I stole!
The Star Tribune reported on another secret dining club in the Twin Cities.  Two secret dining clubs in Minneapolis?!?  How can this be?  Is it possible that Minnesota is super cool? However, I think Paired is a more interesting concept, plus I’m not a huge fan of DJ’s.  Besides, how are they going to provide an exclusive event with 200 people? via heavytable.com

Sexiest Restaurant Ever?
There’s a website in Portland, OR documenting sexy chefs, kind of an online version of white coat fever.  I don’t usually check it out, but it’s a boring day at my house so I figured I’d check it out.  What did I find?  Another post about Biwa, my former employer!  It seems that Gabe and Will have a knack for hiring hot cooks. That’s five hot cooks!  Someone...

St. Patrick's Day
Tomorrow is St. Patrick’s Day, so the StarTrib posted a brief list of goings on aroud town, but mostly downtown.  I’m not sure that I want to venture into the gauntlet of downtown bars on tuesday, but seeing the Como Ave Jug Band might be worth it.

Racism or History?
A town in Italy is passing a law to restrict new restaurants opening in the city.  This might not sound too racist, but the new restrictions are in response to ethnic restaurants opening in the city.  Although popular with the younger crowd, many elders are wary to change the culinary outlook of the town. Is this a reaction to the town’s clinging to history or blatant racism? from...

20 tools that have changed the way we cook
Gourmet magazine has a neat little slideshow of twenty gadgets that have changed the way people cook since WWII.  Most of these tools I couldn’t imagine not having in a kitchen.  I know plastic wrap is bad for the environment, but it’s indispensable in the kitchen.  It being 2009, I’m unimpressed by the concept of the Weber grill, but I could see how it changed the face of home...
