Hey tumblr,

This is my five hundredth post since I started blogging on tumblr.  It’s time to share my favorite chef; Susan Olson.  Some of you might know her as my mom, most of you don’t know her at all.  She raised me to be the person I am today, and fed me three squares a day.  Sometimes she phoned it in, sometimes she pulled out all the stops.

My childhood eating was a combination of family recipes that were handed down from mother to daugher (potato pancakes) or things that she had clipped from the newspaper (Taco pie).  She experimented with coupons, and managed to feed a family of five (three boys, her and my dad) for less than a hundred dollars a week.  We always ate well, and had plenty of leftovers for the next day’s lunch.

She’s not the most perfect chef, my mother.  Her pot roast was always overdone (sorry mom), she hasn’t perfected salting foods, nor has her penchant for cream of mushroom soup wavered over the years (again mom, I’m sorry), but if there were a gun to my head, and I had to choose Thomas Keller or Susan Olson, my mom wins, hands down.
